I learned to read a house before I learned to sell one.
Humble beginnings
I come from humble beginnings, with parents who are still working on projects today. My mom usually comes home with more paint in her hair than on the wall. (Sorry, Mom.)
My parents and brother run B&J Textures, a family business that has served residential and commercial projects across the Kansas City metro for more than 40 years, from insurance restoration to renovations and remodels. My brother also owns Stover’s Home Remodeling, handling insurance restoration and full-service residential and commercial work.
Holidays on the job site
Most kids remember holiday traditions. Mine were fire board-ups on Christmas, pumping water out of a basement after a pipe burst on my birthday, and tarping a roof after we pulled a storm-felled tree off of it.
When I say I’ve been around it all, I mean it. Historic homes getting careful updates. Basements finished out. An entire level added to a house. An automated pool cover installed on a commercial property. Decks, fences, kitchens, baths, custom closets, and cabinetry.
Why I sell instead of build
The family always brought me in for demo. I was good at breaking things, and they were good at putting them back together. So instead of joining the family business, I went into sales and marketing, and spent more than 20 years there.
When I got into investing and flipping, I found my real passion was the real estate side. Now I bring both worlds to every client: a marketer who knows how to sell your home, and a family that knows exactly what’s behind the walls.
